Frau Woellfchen's genius Southdown Sock Sets combine two of our favorite things: breed-specific fibers and sock yarn!
Each Southdown Sock Set consists of two braids that are identically dyed – spin them up identically for a pair of matching socks, or differently for a "sisters, not twins" approach! The Southdown sheep fleeces are robust, have a lot of crimp, and do not felt easily, which makes them the ideal spinning fiber for creating sock yarn.
The Southdown Sock Sets are hand-dyed by Heike of Frau Woellfchen in her studio in the middle of Germany.
This blend is fabulous for new and experienced spinners alike and works well on wheels and spindles. Each set contains approx. 150g of fiber.
If you are curious, check out our blog posts about the difference between wool tops, batts, and rolags and what to make with hand-spun yarn. And if you are new to spinning, how about how to get started with spinning?

When I first started spinning, the name of the indie dyer "Frau Woellfchen" came up time and again, and now I know exactly why: Heike not only sources the most beautiful breed-specific tops, but dyes them in absolutely magnificent colorways.
Heike is based in the middle of Germany where she renovated an old bakery over the last year which is now her dyeing studio. She very intentionally sources non-superwash, plastic-free fibers that she then carefully hand-dyes (no felting in any of these braids!) in fabulously layered colorways.
Her Southdown Sock Sets are a super fun idea for any spinner who loves to spin sock yarn and knit them too! They provide lots of options for playing with color, and if you like matching socks, they're the perfect thing for you.
