We're always looking for additions to our test knitting team!
Simply sign up with your name and email address down below and we'll send you a notification when our next test knit opens up.
Ability & willingness to give feedback: While all our patterns have been tech-edited prior to test knitting, we expect our test knitters to diligently work with the pattern and give feedback on anything that seems unclear or confusing. This doesn't mean you have to be an advanced knitter, but you should be comfortable with the level of complexity of the pattern.
Good photography: Let's talk about the elephant in the room - yes, we like to use our test knitters' photos on our Social Media channels, in our newsletter and on our website. Stunning projects deserve public recognition! We will therefore give preference to testers who take good photos of their knitting and share it online, be it on Instagram or Ravelry.
When we're ready to test knit a new pattern or collection - i.e., after it's been tech edited - we send out a call for test knitting applications to our test knitting email list.
You then get access to a webpage where you can see pattern details, sketches and photos of the designs that we're looking to test - and you can apply for the test knit through a handy little survey.
Test knit applications usually stay open about a week, after which we're selecting the testers for this round and send out an email to everyone who has applied to let them know whether they've gotten a spot in this test knitting round.
If you've been selected, we'll email you everything you need to know to order your yarn (we usually get discounts from the yarn companies for our testers, yay!) and start swatching. You then have about four weeks to order your yarn - and then it's cast-on day!
On cast-on day, you get access to your pattern and then you start knitting! We do all our test knits via Google Docs, so you should be comfortable working with them and using the comment functionality to share any questions or comments you have.
When you're done, you complete a feedback survey and, if you're using Ravelry, you can set up a Ravelry page. If you finish the test knit on time and submit the survey, you're eligible for your test knit compensation, a 30% discount code for any one print or digital copy of the Making Stories Magazine purchased through the Making Stories webshop OR a 15% discount code to the Making Stories webshop.
Every Tuesday our newsletter arrives in your inbox, full to the brim with Making Stories goodness. If you would like to join in on the fun, fill in the form below.
As a thank you, we gift you a digital publication of your choice!
