Marina Skua's Mendip 4ply is a woollen-spun Sport weight yarn that’s a true gauge wonder. It comes from a single flock of Shetland-cross sheep that grazes in the Mendip Hills, less than 20 miles from Marina's studio.

The Mendip Stormy base we used to carry has been replaced by Mendip Cloudy. They are spun to the same specifications, but where Stormy was a warm beige base spun from grown-up sheep’s wool, Cloudy is a natural heathery grey spun from blended white and dark-coloured lambswool. This means the new Cloudy base is a little softer, and the overdyed colours come out very slightly cooler than on the Stormy base. We've also added an undyed version of Marina's Sunny base, which is a creamy white with just a hint of grey!

    • Non-superwash
    • 100% British wool
    • Sport weight: 150 meters per 50 grams / 164 yards per 1.75 ounces
    • Recommended needle size: 2.25 - 3.25 mm / US 1 - 3
    • Woollen spun, 2 ply

    • Fleeces are sourced from an eco-farm less than 20 miles from Marina’s studio that uses a holistic management system to regenerate the soil where the sheep graze
    • Yarn is spun at a small mill in Yorkshire
    • All colors are hand-dyed by Marina using fibre reactive dyes
    • Fiber & yarn origin: UK

    Fanlight Sweater

From Marina Skua, the designer of this fantastic colorwork yoke sweater: "For this stranded colourwork design I was inspired by the joy of spring sunlight streaming through stained glass, and my love of geometric forms. I really love how Art Deco designers and artists like Frank Lloyd Wright brought these elements together in fresh compositions that are both beautiful and practical."

    Contorta Hat

“Touring three US national parks in the summer of 2017 (Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton) we were enthralled by the vast beauty of the mountain forests. Memories of tall slender lodgepole pines stayed with me. Those images became the inspiration for my (pinus) Contorta hat design. I charted and swatched many pine trees before sending in my design proposal for Issue 2. It was a delight to work with Marina Skua’s Mendip 4-ply (hand-dyed, British mountain grown wool). Mendip knit up at a gauge that allowed me to repeat the slender pines, all in a row, around the hat. Contorta is essentially a classic ribbed beanie, inspired by mountain trees, and knit in mountain wool. Enjoy.” - Carolyn Kern
