Hello lovelies,
fall is getting closer and closer, which means that today I'm back with a short, but sweet overview of the new kits and yarns we'll have for Issue 10. These are exclusively available to our Magazine Subscribers and Collective Members from July 31 to August 6, and will launch for everyone else together with Issue 10 on September 5.
This time, we'll have kits for two favorite, yet very different sweater patterns:
On the left, we have Andrea Gaughan's Muscadine Sweater, a gorgeous cropped raglan pullover with the perfect cabled sleeve detail. On the right you see Terri Maue's Old Love Pullover, the throwback of my dreams - colorwork and dropped shoulders, inspired by the ski wear of the 70s and 80s!
(Ohh, and! I should mention that our kits now come with a 10% discount compared to buying the yarn in single skeins!)
Muscadine combines traditional intricate cable motifs with a modern fit and minimalist style to create a sweater worthy of becoming an heirloom piece. With its cropped length and raglan construction, it's perfect for pairing with high-waisted jeans or over a linen dress!
The sweater is worked top down, with a comfortable, relaxed fit and slightly cropped length. The body is worked in stockinette, with sleeves featuring a winding cable motif running from atop each shoulder, down the sleeve, to the cuff. The 1 x 1 twisted rib edgings echo the twisted stitch within the cable motif. The collar is worked by picking up sts around the neckline to add stability over long-term use of the sweater, and folded over and sewn, creating a beautiful double thick collar. The cuffs and hem are finished with tubular bind-offs.
The result of these thoughtful details is a comfortable and practical sweater with the perfect amount of special touches to be a treasured staple piece in any wardrobe.
For Muscadine, we're bringing a new-to-us small batch yarn to the shop: Abundant Earth Fiber Renew. Renew is a DK-weight, worsted-spun 3ply, all of which contribute greatly to its fantastic stitch definition. The yarn shines in stockinette, cables and texture - hence perfect for Muscadine!
Lydia and Alan from Abundant Earth Fiber source their fleeces for Renew exclusively in the US (where they are based) and then spin this deliciously round DK weight yarn in their own mill. They even hand-dye the fabulous, jewel-toned colors!
We've added four beautiful shades of Renew to our line-up - Ember, the original sample color, alongside Gray, Daffodil and Estuary. Get your Muscadine Kit here!
Old Love is a round-necked pullover reminiscent of an old favourite with a contemporary vibe. The design was inspired by a walk down memory lane to the golden age of ski fashion from the mid to late 1970s and early 1980s - sweaters and jackets with lots of stripes and bright, bold colour blocking.
This pullover is loose-fitting, falls at the waistline and is worked in the round from the bottom up until the divide for the armholes. The front and back are then worked separately and joined together at the shoulders with a 3-Needle Bind-Off. The sleeves are picked up along the armhole edge and worked in the round. Colourwork is worked both flat and in the round.
There are a minimal number of rows where colour stranding across more than 5 sts is necessary, using only two colours per row. The colourwork is complemented with a bit of light texture in the body and sleeves, allowing the colour work to “pop”.
I am so delighted that we finally get to carry this yarn in the shop: BC Garn Semilla Melange! It's a wonderful organic allrounder yarn - woollen-spun, perfect for colorwork and lightweight garments and accessories alike. Plus, it's GOTS-certified!
We've put together kits in three color combinations:
From top to bottom:
Original: These are the original sample colors - a warm rust as the main color, with a cream as the contrast for the yoke, and dark grey for the colorwork.
Blues: My personal dream combination - a heathered denim blue as the main color, with a dark blue for the yoke, and light grey for the colorwork.
Neutrals: This kit is perfect for everyone who loves warm neutrals - camel as the main color, with a slightly heathered cream for the yoke, and a medium grey for the colorwork.
I love all three of them - so hard to decide, right? Get your Old Love Sweater Kit here.

About three weeks ago, I had surgery. Nothing major, and it was planned - but it was my first time undergoing general anaesthesia and facing an uncertain recovery period, both of which made me quite nervous. I knew that I was going to be in the hospital for two days, if everything went well, but then it was between one and three weeks of recovering at home, depending on how fast my body was going to heal.
Needless to say, I packed knitting for the hospital, but I didn’t feel like picking up my needles until my second day in the hospital. And then I knit. I knit, and knit, and knit. Curiously enough, I always get the urge to clear off my needles this time of the year - something about the weather changing, sweater season approaching, maybe? And this year, this urge coincided with me wanting to do something while watching copious amounts of Netflix without having to think very hard about what I was going to knit. Win win!
