    About Hana

From Elizabeth Nihoniho, the designer: "As a family we often holiday in rural South Island, New Zealand when we light a campfire and sit around chatting with our hot drinks while the children play tag in the dark.

With the sea booming below, the myriad of stars above and the occasional sheep calling to another, it is magic and these are the moments the Hana Sweater is inspired by.

The word Hana is te reo Māori (the Māori language) for flame, warmth and heat which is perfect for this sweater as campfires conjure up cosy cables and texture!"

Knit from the bottom up in the round, the rib is worked, followed by a texture section and then the body with a cable motif that represents flames. The front and back are separated and the final cables are worked flat, followed by another texture section and completed in seed stitch.

The neckline is shaped and short rows shape the shoulders before a 3-needle Bind-Off completes the shoulders. The drop sleeves are picked up and a short texture section is followed by stockinette sleeves with decreases for shaping and a rib cuff to complete. Finally a neckband is picked up and either a short rib crew neckband or a long rib cowl collar completes the Hana Sweater.
