Wohooo, it's here – the final day of our 2023 Winter Celebration!

Spoiler Alert: If you have a Winter Celebration Box and you haven't opened the final parcel yet, please do so before reading on.

If you've been following the Winter Celebration for the last few years, you also know what day it is today: Pattern Day!

Our last gift to you is always a new pattern. Something fun, enjoyable to knit over the holidays – or to whip up a last minute gift!

This year's pattern is the brand-new Near & Far Hat. A good few years ago, I wrote a sock pattern called the Near & Far Socks for our Winter 2018 Collection, and when it was time to put together this year's pattern, I knew that I wanted to revisit the cable pattern I'd developed for those socks.

It's super cozy and really enjoyable to knit and I thought it would look really good on a hat. And it turns out, I was right!

The pattern comes in two versions: A DK-weight and a Fingering-weight version. The DK-weight knits up really, really fast – I made the sample in a day – whereas the Fingering-weight hat takes a little longer.

Why two versions, you might ask? Because the pattern is written with this year's Winter Celebration Yarn in mind - and that comes in two weights! Beth from Telling Yarns dyed up a wonderful custom colorway called "Sunfyre" on her custom-spun DK and Fingering weight yarns for us for this year's Winter Celebration Box. I used this yarn for the Near & Far Hat pattern - the perfect fit as it has great stitch definition!

If you didn't get a Winter Celebration Box, but would still like to get some of the yarn, I have good news for you: They're going to be part of our Winter Celebration Update tomorrow, December 11.

For now, though, please enjoy the pattern:
