  • What Can You Knit With Hudson + West Co's Yarns?

    Oktober 18, 2022 3 min lesen.

    Hi lovelies,

on the heels of our most recent yarn launch - have you checked out Forge and Weld yet? - I'm back with a post filled with pattern inspiration.

(Not so) secretly, writing these is one of my favorite things! I just LOVE a good knitting pattern, and I really enjoy dreaming of future cast ons.

We obviously have a back catalogue of wonderful patterns in our magazine, ebooks and books that would work well with these two yarns, but we also decided to carry a selection of Hudson + West's own patterns for Forge and Weld. Why? Because they're designed for the exact yarn specs - and they're absolutely stunning!

We carry both their brand-new Autumn / Winter 2022 Collectionas well as their Top 10 Patterns.

    Let's take a look!

    Autumn / Winter 2022 Collection

Here's what Sloane and Meghan, the founders of Hudson + West, say about this collection:

For everyone. It’s a phrase we’ve said many times over with the hope that everyone envisions themselves in our knitwear. For this collection, we took another step forward in our ever-evolving size-inclusivity mission — one of our core principles — in not only providing sizing to fit a 32” - 64” chest circumference, but showcasing our samples on people of different shapes and sizes.

In this collection you’ll find nine new heritage knitwear designs for everyone, including unisex / menswear, women’s wear, a spectacular shawl, and unisex accessories made in our domestically sourced and produced yarns — Forge and Weld. As this is our fall collection, we’re Forge-focused, bringing you the cabled and textured knits you’ve come to expect from us with a few notable exceptions in Weld by our friends Emily Greene and Cheryl Toy.

As we enter into Autumn, the knitter’s season, we hope you see yourself or loved ones in these knits, designed to make, wear, and cherish for generations to come.

    With love, Sloane + Meghan

I adore everything about this. It's really rare for samples to be shot on different models as it's quite expensive - and hence really refreshing when it's done. On top that, the stunning samples are photographed on bodies presenting as different genders. YES to this!

The Autumn / Winter 2022 Collection consists of nine patterns in total - lots of cables, and textured goodness:

From left to right: Lochlann | Awen | Naimh | Cian | Rowan

From left to right: Ailm | Aoife | Orla |Oisin

    Top 10 Bestsellers

I always love hearing what other people knit, and so my heart sings whenever there's a "Top 10" list of anything, I fully confess that!

You can imagine my delight when Sloane suggested to pull the 10 top-selling patterns from their website - and look, they're all so, so beautiful!

Plus, they'd be a delight to knit - all that squishy goodness:

From left to right: Amelia | Craghill | Saven | Fall Creek | Rhett

From left to right: Mason | Kuffel | Laurel | Stella | Glenwood

I can't wait to pick my next cast on, to be honest! I have set some Forge in Dusk aside for a Washington Cardigan (not a pattern we currently carry, but hopefully soon!), but I'm also really in love with Lochlann. What would you pick?

Let’s wander the streets of Brussels and Paris, searching for the hidden architectural Art Nouveau gems – houses, doors, windows, street lamps. Let’s explore Berlin’s Jugendstil tile art, marvelling at the colors and shapes taking form. Let’s get lost in the work of water color artists, glass blowers, jewellers, embroidery artists, and myriads more, who dive into the shapes and curves of plants and flowers, moving, flowing, mirroring.

What it means to be an indie knitting magazine
What it means to be an indie knitting magazine

We've seen dramatic changes in the knitting magazine landscape over the past 12 months: Pom Pom Quarterly ceased publication at the end of 2023, Laine sold the majority of their company to one of the biggest Finnish publishers, and Amirisu first pivoted to books, and now to an online-only media outlet. Multicraftual magazines that often included knitting patterns were equally as affected: Making pivoted to a combined app and monthly membership business model, and Taproot first changed to a preorder model, and then very abruptly closed their business (the website is offline, hence no link).

This has left us standing as one of the very, very few indie knitting magazines in the market.
