We're all about the non-superwash, plastic (aka nylon) free yarns over here - even for socks!

Sock yarn doesn't need artifical strengthener (like nylon or polyamide) to hold up really well, it just needs to be the right kind of yarn.

Ideally, you have a long-stapled fiber (like Corriedale in these self-striping sock yarn sets) that's spun up to a two- or three-ply with a high twist. The high twist helps to create robustness in the yarn - it won't twist apart as easily, hence it's stronger.

Natural sock yarn, i.e. sock yarn without nylon in it, will also ideally felt at the most worn spots. That's usually the ball of the foot and the heels, and that's exactly what we want! The felting strengthens your sock's fabric and helps to prevent holes.

What's so fantastic about this self-striping sock yarn is that it's not only non-superwash and plastic-free, it's also meticulously, beautifully naturally dyed. Alice's partner Matt devised a way to create a very long yarn loop out of one skein so Alice could dye up equal parts of the yarn with her fabulous natural colors, resulting in one of the most unique yarns I've ever seen.
