I love Vera from Studio Solas' work – she's one of the most talented and dedicated natural dyers I know. She works with both locally foraged plants and kitchen scraps to create gorgeous, deeply satured colorways.
Vera's "Organic Sock" blend is a sturdy Merino (yes, this does exist - it's German Merino!) spun up with a high twist to a DK-weight sock yarn.
For our October Sustainable Sock Club, she dyed a stunning sock set for us in a deep rusty red, complemented by a warm nutty brown, inspired by October's "Fall Produce" theme.
We only have a limited quantity of these available - when these skeins are gone, they're gone!

October is the "birthday" month of our Sustainable Sock Club, and so I always try to do something special for it! This year, a lot of you have been asking for thicker sock yarns, and so I decided to combine a DK-weight sock yarn with a sock set. Throw in some natural dyeing and we've arrived at Vera's fabulous Organic Sock Set!
It's a 100% German Merino yarn, tightly twisted and a 3ply, both of which make it sturdy. The German Merino is quite rustic, so it doesn't pill and break as easily as, for example, Australian Merino.
Vera uses foraged plants and kitchen scraps to naturally dye her yarn, and I just adore the deep, rusty red she's paired with a warm brown!
A warm, cozy pair of socks is my first choice for this yarn – it's actually on my needles right now! I am making a little colorwork "garland" at the leg with the contrasting mini. You could certainly also use it for contrasting heels, cuffs and toes!
Although the yarn is called "Organic Sock", it would also work wonderfully for mittens or a hat - warm, woolly accessories to keep you toasty in winter!
