My Fanlight kit made it from Berlin to my home in small-town Ontario in short order! I was so pleased with the lovely colours (MC Cloudy Teal, CC Cloudy Bloom & Sunny Sheep). I haven’t yet started my Fanlight (summer knits are presently a priority), but Marina’s Mendip base looks like it will bloom up nicely for a cozy - but not bulky — winter favourite!
About Fanlight - The Pattern
For this stranded colourwork design Marina Skua was inspired by the joy of spring sunlight streaming through stained glass, and her love of geometric forms.
The body of the jumper is worked top-down in the round, beginning with a tubular cast-on and 1x1 rib in CC1. Short rows are worked in stockinette to raise the back neck, then MC is joined and colourwork begins – MC and CC2 are striped, so only two colours are ever worked per round. When the colourwork is finished, body and sleeves are split and worked in MC. A smaller colourwork motif is worked at the cuffs and hem, then we continue with only CC1 for 1x1 rib.
About Marina Skua's Mendip 4ply - The Yarn
Marina Skua's Mendip 4ply is a woollen-spun Sport weight yarn that’s a true gauge wonder. It comes from a single flock of Shetland-cross sheep that grazes in the Mendip Hills, less than 20 miles from Marina's studio. It's entirely sourced, spun and dyed in the UK - with Marina hand-dyeing every skein lovingly using fibre reactive dyes and minimizing water usage and waste during the dye process.

Caring for your finished object
All our yarns are non-superwash yarns, so any project made from them is best washed by hand in lukewarm (not hot!) water, using a little bit of wool wash or gentle soap. Take care not to wring the FO, but gently squish any excess water out of it, wrap it in a towel, roll it up, and do a little "dance on the towel" to press any remaining water out of the item. Then, lay it flat to dry.
