Okay, we love more or less everything about Marina Skua's yarn, so where to start?

First off, Marina sources the fleeces from one single flock that lives on an ecological farm about 50 miles from her studio. The sheep graze on top of the Mendip Hills, which inspired the name of yarn.

She then sends the yarn on to Wales where it's spun in a small mill to fantastic standards - lovely, light, airy, woollen-spun.

After the two undyed bases, a grey and a creamy white, have made it back to Marina to Wiltshire, she then hand-dyes every single skein in her home studio.

Marina uses non-toxic synthetic dyes to achieve consistent results that are color-fast. She also recycles the water used to dye numerous times and completely exhausts the dye baths before the remaining water is discarded in her garden.

All in all, the wool has only travelled about 300 miles from flock to mill to dyer - how fantastic is that?

The colorwork pattern is inspired by the flora and textiles of north-western Argentina, a region dear to the designer, and combines a central cactus motif with geometric details. Short-rows at the back of the neck as well as length options for the body and sleeves ensure a great fit. The neckline, cuffs and hem are worked in the contrasting color, which creates a beautiful transition to and from the colorwork sections.

Frostbeam is a combination of a lot of wonderful things: Sheepy yarn meets lace, cool teal meets heathery grey, fun-to-knit construction meets FO that you don’t want to take off, ever. The parallelogram shawl is worked from tip to tip, with the ribbed contrasting color border knitted at the same time as the lace for the main body - no picking up of stitches here! Frostbeam is reversible, meaning the lace looks good from either side, which is a huge bonus for any shawl in our books!

Marina Skua's Mendip DK is a beautiful, woollen-spun DK-weight yarn that is great for cozy accessories, sweaters and cardigans destined to keep you warm.

It knits up beautifully in stockinette, and is fantastic for colorwork!

Colorwork hats in Mendip DK are a firm favorite of ours - they knit up super fast and are super fun to make and wear. Great for yourself, and for gift knitting.

If you want to dream a little bigger, might we suggest a colorwork yoke sweater? At a DK-weight gauge, it will still knit up relatively quickly, and keep you cozy warm during the chilly fall and winter days.

Lastly, we're also (not so) secretly very much in love with Mendip DK for cables. As the yarn is woollen-spun, you'll get a delightfully gentle cable fabric that is fabulously light and warm!

Colors are beautiful!

I ordered my kit and some other items on my birthday 11/22 and they just arrived! This is not to complain but to say I was really anticipating these deliveries and am so happy they are here!
